  • Safety Tips

    • Call in all suspicious people seen in the neighborhood.
    • Don’t leave packages where they are visible from the street. Ask someone you trust to hold it for you until you get home.
    • Carjackers are looking for easy, unaware targets. Don’t sit in your car in the driveway, distracted by your phone, especially at night.
    • Know your neighbors. Have their phone numbers in case you need to contact them.
    • Know your neighbor is out of town? Keep an eye on their house to make sure no one is there that shouldn’t be.
    • Keep your garage door closed. Very easy for someone to quickly steal something and run out, or worse, enter your home.
    • Turn on porch lights at night.
    • Add motion sensing security lights around the outside of your home. Especially in the driveway over your vehicle.
    • Lock your vehicles. We have so many thieves in the area that go driveway to driveway, especially at night, trying vehicle doors for an easy steal. Always park in your garage if possible.
    • Add locks to the interior side of gates.
    • Install security cameras and/or a smart doorbell like Ring or Arlo.
    • Make sure gates are closed after your yard service leaves.
    • Make sure dogs have updated tags and microchip. So many get loose and we want to get them home.
    • Cancel any newspapers that may pile up in your yard like the Dallas Morning News Briefing. To cancel, call the Briefing Customer Care team at (214) 977-8333 or visit dallasnews.com/briefing. Delivery will cease in two business days or less. A pile of newspapers can make your house look vacant and make you a target for a break-in.
  • VIP Application

VIP groups are designed to provide a means for citizens to organize into patrol groups for the purpose of being visible in their community. The value of police-citizen cooperation is well illustrated by the success of Citizen Patrol programs nationwide.

VIP allows citizens to have an active part in combating crime in their patrol area. VIP helps citizens achieve a safer neighborhood through heightened emphasis on citizen involvement in crime prevention. VIP supplements detection and reporting of suspicious persons and activities to the police department. VIP shows a presence of law-abiding citizens patrolling the streets throughout the City of Dallas.

  • Good Neighbor Agreement

The Ferguson Road Initiative acted as liaison and coordinated a meeting with Jake Brown of LDG Development and representatives from the neighborhoods surrounding the proposed development – Eastwood Hills, Hillview Terrace and Truett Area Crime Watch – to create a good neighbor agreement. Please email any questions regarding the development, or issues once the development is built, to eastwoodhillsna@gmail.com.

    Some highlights from the agreement:

    • 10′ fence and holly bushes for privacy along the creek
    • No felons or sex offenders will be allowed to live in the development
    • LDG is to retain ownership of the property for 15 years. (Only possible to be sold in the event of an unforeseen and extreme financial situation.)

  • Petitions update

    Hi Neighbors!

    PETITION

We have enough signatures to file our Petition of opposition, and to trigger the P&Z vote June 2, to the proposed rezoning from single-family homes to multi-family on the two parcels of land bordering the southeast area of our neighborhood… more signatures are welcome. Those who received the initial, official notification and questionnaire, and have not been home when signatures were being collected, can stop by 9019 Fringewood Dr. and sign the petition from 6 to 7 p.m. this Thurs., May 26 and Fri., May 27. Homeowners not in the notification area are also welcome to sign in support.

    Requirements:

    • You must be the homeowner for the address [not renting]
    • Only one signature per household
    • You must live in Eastwood Hills

Judy Fender will be out collecting signatures during the day and evenings, and a time frame for Saturday will be posted later.

    PREP MEETING

The proposed time/date for the prep meeting is May 31 at 6:30 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles. This will be a good time to tighten up talking points before the meeting so we all sound like we have one voice. A new email, and Nextdoor post, will go out once meeting time is confirmed.

    REPLY FORMS

Senior Planner, Ryan Mulkey, informed me the reply forms that were sent to those in the notification area are due to their office Wed., June 1 by noon. He said they were mailed May 20 but residents may have already received them in April. Just repeating the information in case there are some out there.

  • P&Z Guidebook

    Hi Neighbors!

    P&Z PREP MEETING
There will be a meeting Sat., May 28 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles. When you arrive, go to the main door that has the flags.Contact Helene (HMKTI@yahoo.com) with questions about this meeting.

    P&Z GUIDEBOOK
A guidebook will be presented Tues., May 31 at Owenwood Farm & Neighbor Space. This will be the basis of our opposition. It will be distributed to neighbors and the planning commissioners. Additional talking points, that support the Guidebook, will be determined at this meeting. Those speaking at P&Z will have a specific topic to discuss and a notecard of talking points to take with them June 2. The idea is to have well-thought-out points that won’t be repeated by another speaker. This will make us look prepared and educated. P&Z is not moved by feelings, we have to hit them with facts. This meeting is only reserved for an hour so please be on time. Please bring $5 to help cover the meeting space rental.Contact Robin (eastwoodhillsna@gmail.com) with questions about this meeting.

    P&Z SPEAKERS
Speakers will need to be strategically chosen based on our issues that align with their experiences. This is not meant to exclude anyone or hurt feelings. People that can speak to points that have directly impacted them will be very meaningful. If too many people speak it may upset the planning commissioners. We are not their only agenda item that day and need to be respectful of their time. We want to keep this short, sweet and super organized. This is about quality not quantity. If we have concise arguments, a handful of speakers will be effective.

    SUPPORT YOUR SPEAKERS
We may not need many speakers but supporting neighbors are welcome to be a part of the audience. Showing up in numbers always makes an impact! Some neighbors have made shirts for this event. If you haven’t, you can still support them by wearing a red shirt if you desire. Those in red shirts should sit in the front of the group, especially those that have “NO Z201-180” shirts. Those will be most visible to the Planning Commissioners across the room. Red means STOP, and that is our goal. Stop the rezoning! If you would like to drive and/or carpool to the meeting you can post here on our Nextdoor page. Please invite any neighbors you think would be interested in attending.
